Gardening is normally associated with the planting of flowers and maintaining a pretty landscape. However, there is more to gardening than meets the eye; it ranges from orchards to residential gardens to vegetable plots. Gardening has become a way of life, with most people anxious to create and maintain a pretty outdoor living area.
However, it is more than just a way of life, it also feeds us. In the Soviet Union history half of the food supply came from small peasants’ garden plots on the huge government – run collective farms, although they were tiny patches of land.
This constant need for food supplies has resorted into large, modern farms and fields. Although now it has become fashionable to ‘grow your own’ in pots, allotments and gardens. People are now demanding organic and green produce, thus taking the time and energy to grow their food from their own back garden.
